Un relitto aereo a largo di Sciacca, la scoperta dell’Università di Palermo
L’immagine mostra un aereo molto ben conservato, ma non è stato possibile individuare il modello o la nazionalità
Da qualche mese il gruppo di geologia marina dell’Università degli Studi di Palermo è impegnato in una campagna oceanografica di acquisizione di dati geofisici nello specchio di mare antistante Sciacca (AG).
E durante l’acquisizione di dati acustici con un Side Scan Sonar – che restituisce immagini dei fondali marini – il 17 marzo scorso il gruppo ha rilevato un corpo sommerso a circa 7,5 miglia nautiche da Sciacca: l’immagine acustica visualizzata sul monitor ha mostrato una forma assimilabile a un relitto di un aereo, lungo circa 20 metri e con apertura alare di circa 30 metri.
Al momento, nonostante l’immagine mostri un aereo molto ben conservato, non è stato possibile individuare il modello, la nazionalità, né se sia integro e conservi al suo interno resti umani o residui bellici; allertati tutti gli organi di competenza in modo da preservare il relitto e gli eventuali rinvenimenti e mettere in sicurezza l’area.
Ritrovato anche un altro relitto di aereo, un Savoia Marchetti risalente alla II guerra mondiale
Dopo una ricerca eseguita sul ritrovamento di altri relitti aerei nello stesso specchio di mare, si è venuti a conoscenza della presenza di un altro relitto di aereo, un Savoia Marchetti risalente alla II guerra mondiale, abbattuto da caccia inglesi il 14 Agosto 1942, le cui caratteristiche non sembrano corrispondere al relitto rinvenuto lo scorso marzo.
Le attività sono finanziate dall’ISPRA-Istituto superiore per la protezione e la ricerca ambientale per la realizzazione del Foglio geologico n. 628 “Sciacca” della Carta Geologica alla scala 1:50.000, nell’ambito del progetto CARG. A condurle, ricercatori, borsisti e studenti del Dipartimento di Scienze della Terra e del Mare (DiSTeM) dell’Università di Palermo, con l’ausilio dello spin-off universitario “Biosurvey”, un team di specialisti nel campo della Biologia ed Ecologia marina che effettuano monitoraggio e valutazione ambientale, anche attraverso l’utilizzo di tecnologie avanzate e rilievi acustici ad alta risoluzione.
