Iniziata l’esercitazione Global Sentinel 2017
Si svolgerà fino al 29 settembre, presso il Center for Innovation della Lockheed Martin presso Suffolk, VA (USA), la quarta edizione dell’esercitazione, denominata Global Sentinel 2017 (GS17), organizzata dallo United States Strategic Command e volta allo studio di una possibile architettura multinazionale per la Space Situational Awareness (SSA).
Si tratta di un’architettura allargata, basata sull’integrazione delle capacità dei Paesi partecipanti (Australia, Canada, Francia, Germania, Giappone, Italia, Regno Unito e Stati Uniti), simulata tramite un centro operativo multinazionale composto da rappresentanti delle nazioni coinvolte, che avranno occasione di provare procedure e modalità di reazione a una serie di eventi spaziali imprevisti, che potrebbero accadere nella realtà.
Non esiste oggi sistema tecnologicamente avanzato che non dipenda dalle applicazioni satellitari e questo rende l’infrastruttura spaziale critica e strategica allo stesso tempo. La capacità di Space Surveillance and Tracking (SST) che anche l’Europa ha iniziato a sviluppare costituisce dunque una capacità essenziale, soprattutto in ottica futura.
Dopo aver partecipato come osservatori alla scorsa edizione di settembre 2016, una delegazione dell’Aeronautica Militare italiana prenderà parte, quest’anno, alla GS17 con personale proveniente dallo Stato Maggiore Aeronautica, dal Reparto Sperimentale Volo di Pratica di Mare e dal Comando Operazioni Aeree (COA) di Poggio Renatico.
Ad oggi presso il Reparto Sperimentale Volo di Pratica di Mare sono infatti attestate le funzioni di Italian SST Operation Centre-ISOC per la fornitura dei servizi di Collision Avoidance, Re-entry e Fragmentation previsti nell’ambito del Consorzio Europeo SST, al quale partecipano i Centri Operativi e gli assetti operativi di Francia, Germania, Italia, Regno Unito e Spagna. La partecipazione dell’Italia al Consorzio Europeo vede anche il fondamentale coinvolgimento dello Stato Maggiore Difesa, dell’Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica e dell’Agenzia Spaziale Italiana, che svolge anche funzione di National Entity a livello europeo.
La partecipazione all’esercitazione Global Sentinel 2017 rappresenta un’opportunità di accrescimento dell’attuale capacità operativa di SST, che si traduce nell’estensione del concetto di controllo dello spazio aereo tradizionale all’ambiente spaziale. Al tempo stesso il concetto di Recognized Air Picture si apre ed estende alla più ampia Recognized Space Picture.
